I don't listen to them a lot (I fear it would get annoying soon), but I find their guitar melodies (and those Nintendo-style keyboards) totally fun to listen to, clichéd or not. From what I've heard, they've pulled together lately, stopped the booze and tried to become more than an artificially sped up studio band. Seems they've noticed how their support acts always get more enthusiasm from the audience than they themselves. Wink

I don't think they deserve the hate they get, they seem to be talented in principle. DF is essentially everything people either love or hate about power metal, driven to extremes. Has anyone ever listened to Li's and Totman's former band Demoniac? A black metal band from Auckland, NZ (!) that with more and more outrageous guitar solos is said to have ended up sounding much like COB eventually. I've even seen people name Demoniac as an example of a band that really deserves the moniker "extreme power metal", in response to DF's claim of the term, obviously oblivious of the members. lol! Just goes show that if DF had harsh vocals, all those kiddies that hate on them now would be fanboys, too.

@ Almagest: hmmmm...interesting analysis. Sonata Arctica opens for them tomorrow night in Vancouver.

I've been to a DF Gig and gosh their live sound is so shitty and muddy, but other than that the guys are fun to be with except for Sam though, fuckin drunken incoherent bastard on the last gig 2 years ago, but screw that Megadeth also owned on that same year!

I heard Sam and Herman are heavy drinkers.. That's still no excuse for them playing bad live! Laughing

They look like a bunch of wankers! I've seen them on YT, and I've heard that they're so drunk on stage that their live shows tend to tank pretty quickly. But as Almagest said, perhaps they're cleaning up their act. Still, I wouldn't pay to see them, even if Sonata Arctica is opening for them.

DragonFart!

But you see how I found it necessary to qualify James's statement a little ...

CanuckFan: So you aren't going to give DF another chance to redeem themselves? That's so close-minded of you! Everyone deserves another chance, or even more if necessary! (Until you like them, that is.) Shame on you! Razz

I saw them about ten months ago (only went because Turisas was opening), and even though Sam was wasted, they still sounded really good. For a guy that could barely stand up right after the gig, I'm surprised at how well he played.

seen Dragonforce twice, both times they sounded good, except for forgetting the solos to a song which was very annoyning. I've been lucky to hang out with Herman and Vadim in a pub and to be honest they didn't seem like total pissheads, seemed like your average twenty somethings. cool dudes.

That's what happens to you when you stop getting totally wasted all the time, and start to take the music seriously again for a change, I suppose. I'm not against having fun in the least and I'm not abstinent myself, but I totally resent the excesses in the scene that keep getting sugar-coated even though they're far from any reasonable measure, the word is alcoholism, this shit messes good bands up. Rob Halford has talked about that issue recently, too (I'm not sure to what extent I mixed what he said up with Yngwie's statements in the favourite guitarists thread, I think Yngwie talked about other drugs as well). But yeah, I suspect the fact that they still can play in that state is a testimony to their talent. They just could be so much better if they cut down on the bullshit.

couple of my favorite dynamic duo's:

Dave Mustaine / Marty Friedman (Megadeth)
James Hetfield / Kirk Hammett (Metallica)
Adrian Smith / Dave Murray (Iron Maiden)
Tuomas Saukkonen / Juho Räihä (Before the Dawn)
Alexi Laiho / Roope Latvala (COB)
